How to Make Tahini at Home 🌰

Tahini is a creamy, nutty paste made from sesame seeds and is a key ingredient in many Middle Eastern dishes. Making it at home is simple and allows you to enjoy fresh tahini that's perfect for dips, dressings, and more.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup sesame seeds

- 2-3 tablespoons neutral oil (such as sesame oil or vegetable oil)

- Salt to taste (optional)

Instructions:

1. Toast the Sesame Seeds:

   - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

   - Spread the sesame seeds in an even layer on a baking sheet.

   - Toast in the oven for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the seeds are lightly golden and fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.

2. Cool the Seeds:

   - Remove the toasted sesame seeds from the oven and let them cool completely.

3. Blend the Tahini:

   - Transfer the cooled sesame seeds to a food processor or high-powered blender.

   - Process the seeds for 1-2 minutes until they start to break down into a crumbly paste.

   - Gradually add the neutral oil, a little at a time, while continuing to blend. This will help the seeds turn into a smooth, creamy paste. You may need to stop occasionally to scrape down the sides of the bowl.

   - Blend until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes.

4. Season (Optional):

   - Taste your tahini and add a pinch of salt if desired. Blend again to mix.

5. Store:

   - Transfer the tahini to an airtight container.

   - Store in the refrigerator for up to a month. The tahini may separate over time; just give it a good stir before using.

Tips:

- If you prefer a lighter tahini, you can use hulled sesame seeds, which have had their skins removed.

- Adjust the amount of oil based on your desired consistency. More oil will make it creamier, while less will make it thicker.

- For a roasted flavor, you can lightly toast the sesame seeds longer or in a dry skillet on the stovetop.

Enjoy your homemade tahini in salads, hummus, or as a tasty spread! 🌰✨
